Whirlpool washer not draining or leaving standing water after the cycle

Washer makes a loud grinding or clunking noise during spin

On older Whirlpool top-load washers, this almost always points to a worn splutch kit or shifter assembly at the bottom of the machine. The splutch engages and disengages the spin cycle, and when the plastic components wear down the machine makes a distinctive grinding or banging sound during spin. It is a mechanical repair that we see regularly across Spryfield, Sackville, and Lower Sackville where these older machines are still in heavy use.

Dryer drum spins normally but there is no heat at all

On Whirlpool electric dryers, a blown thermal fuse is the single most common cause of this symptom. The drum keeps spinning because the motor circuit is separate from the heating circuit, so the machine appears to be running normally. The thermal fuse is a safety component and costs very little to replace, but it is important to also identify why it blew in the first place, whether blocked venting or a failing thermostat, to prevent it from happening again.

Washer shows an F8 E3 error code or fills slowly and stops

On current Whirlpool high-efficiency top-load washers, the water level sensor is integrated directly into the control board rather than being a separate standalone part. An F8 E3 error typically indicates a water supply or pressure sensing fault. In some cases the small pressure tube that connects to the sensor gets clogged with detergent residue, which gives a false reading and triggers the error. We check the full water supply path before recommending a control board replacement.

Fridge section is warm but the freezer is still cold

On Whirlpool top-freezer and French door models, this is almost always the evaporator fan motor failing to circulate cold air from the freezer compartment into the fridge section. A secondary cause is the defrost drain clogging with ice, which eventually blocks airflow. Both are common across Halifax homes and we carry the parts to resolve either in a single visit.
